Blender 5.2 introduces new Compositor Assets through Online Essentials.

These include effects such as Paint Filter, Dithering, and Rim 2D, allowing you to quickly change the look of your render without building a complex compositor node setup from scratch.

Rather than being individual built-in nodes newly added to Blender, these are compositor node group assets that combine multiple nodes into an easier-to-use effect.

You can download the assets from the Asset Browser and drag them into the Compositor. The Asset Browser has also been expanded to show both online assets and assets that have already been downloaded.

Complex Node Setups as a Single Asset

It was already possible to create painterly effects, pixel-based looks, and outline effects by combining multiple nodes in Blender’s Compositor.

However, creating the desired result required you to manually connect and configure filter, color correction, blur, and mix nodes.

The new Compositor Assets package these node setups into a single group. After adding an asset, you can quickly try different results by adjusting only the exposed settings.

The workflow has been simplified from building nodes from scratch to loading a ready-made effect and adjusting it.

Paint Filter

Paint Filter transforms a render into a painterly style, such as watercolor, oil painting, or digital painting.

It keeps the overall shapes and colors of the original image while simplifying the surface and adding a brush-painted texture.

Depending on the settings, you can create anything from a soft watercolor look to a strongly simplified painterly style.
